Senior Game Designer
We’re looking for a Senior Game Designer to lead the creation of innovative, player-centric products with our industry leading Minecraft Marketplace team!
You’ll join a team of passionate Minecraft enthusiasts working to bring gameplay-first thinking to our productions to ensure that every game we release is truly unforgettable.
What you will do
- Lead the design of Minecraft Marketplace content, including gameplay systems, mechanics, and balancing, from initial concept to release.
- Develop compelling game loops, progression systems, and interactive scenarios that resonate with all Minecraft player archetypes.
- Collaborate closely with developers, artists, environment designers, producers and QA to ensure cohesive, polished, and technically feasible experiences.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation that clearly communicates vision and implementation requirements.
- Work with QA to conduct playtests, gather feedback, and iterate on features to ensure high levels of fun, usability, and player satisfaction.
- Advocate for best practices in accessible design, inclusivity, and engaging gameplay across all Marketplace projects.
- Stay current with Marketplace trends, community expectations, and platform constraints to guide creative and strategic decisions.
Within 1 month, you will...
- Onboard to team tools, workflows, and pipelines and familiarise yourself with our team structure, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Work closely with the vertical leads to gain an understanding of Spark’s design philosophy and values.
- Participate in playtesting and provide feedback on in-progress work.
- Begin contributing to design documentation and discussions.
Within 3 months, you will...
- Spearhead design on new Marketplace projects from concept to prototype.
- Deliver clear, actionable design documentation for core systems and features.
- Drive iteration through playtesting, feedback, and balancing.
- Pitch original feature ideas that align with player needs and Marketplace product expectations.
Within 6 months, you will...
- Apply your Marketplace product and game design knowledge to launch a high-impact game.
- Identify opportunities to improve our design pipelines, tools, and review processes.
- Begin refining and building out internal game design documentation.
- Champion player-centric thinking across production and teams.
- Drive design innovation that raises the bar for future Marketplace content.
Requirements
- A strong eye for product development and game design, with a solid portfolio of released content on the Minecraft Marketplace.
- Understanding of Minecraft’s core systems, including Bedrock Edition gameplay, mechanics, and creative constraints.
- Proven track record of delivering engaging game design across a variety of genres and formats, either within Minecraft or other games.
- Proficient in using design and documentation tools such as Notion, Miro, Excel, or Google Sheets to communicate ideas and balance systems.
- Skilled in collaborating with cross-functional teams and iterating quickly based on player feedback and testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and present clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience using technical toolsets and workflows including, Git, JSON, and scripting.
- Deep understanding of pacing, player motivation, and retention mechanics.

- As an Employee in Germany: 21€ - 24.50€ per hour.
- Employment is also available in the UK, Austria, The Netherlands and Slovenia. Rate will differ based on local circumstances.
