Head of Operations

We’re looking for a Head of Operations to build and scale the operational backbone of Spark Universe.

As Head of Operations, you will build and lead our legal, finance, and IT teams while driving initiatives that support growth, compliance, and cross-functional effectiveness. You will deliver insights that support big picture decision making across the entire company, working closely with the executive team to ensure that all changes align with company values.

What you will do

  • Oversee legal resources and projects, including regulatory compliance, B2C agreements, and B2B contracts
  • Put in place, and oversee, legal and compliance risk management and mitigation strategies
  • Obtain and present financial insights and overviews, breaking down company cost per department, team, and project, on an ongoing basis
  • Setup and maintain international employment infrastructure
  • Oversee and manage accounting
  • Build, oversee and manage IT department
  • Manage internal tooling
  • Oversee and manage company insurances
  • Ensure your teams operate effectively, efficiently, and cohesively
  • Define, track and communicate key KPIs related to your areas

Within 1 month, you will...

  • Complete your onboarding to gain a deep understanding of our mission, values, and operational procedures.
  • Spend time with key members of leadership to get to know their knowledge and interest in company operations.
  • Learn about each of our verticals, their products and services, with guidance and support from the vertical lead.

Within 3 months, you will...

  • Have built relationships with team members across all departments to gain a holistic understanding of our work environment.
  • Have put together a list of priorities for operational changes, with priorities guided by the executive team.
  • Take ownership over financial tracking, and initiate breaking down company costs.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for IT and tooling issues.

Within 6 months, you will...

  • Be supporting the People department to increase our support for international employment, including unifying payroll and futureproofing our pay scale structure
  • Be monitoring and enforcing risk management strategies across the business for compliance policies
  • Have taken over leadership of the accounting for our european and US entities, working with internal staff and external firms
  • Have started building out IT and cyber security resources across the company

Requirements

  • An ideal candidate will have experience in a legal and finance role at a small to medium sized start up.
  • A collaborative attitude, with impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership experience in an online environment.
  • High levels of critical thinking and problem solving, with the ability to nurture these skills in your team members.
  • Acute attention to detail, with the ability to write and maintain effective documentation.
  • Technical literacy across a wide range of tools.
  • Fluency in German, or previous experience within the German regulation framework, is a bonus.

What we offer

  • Flexible working hours.
  • Clear career growth and progression opportunities within the company.
  • As a contractor: 35€ to 45€ per hour.
  • As an Employee in Germany: 28,50€ to 36,50€ per hour.
  • Employment is also available in the UK, Austria, Slovenia. Rate will differ based on local circumstances.

Additional information

  • Applicants must be older than 18 years old.
  • Commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Fully remote.
