Engineering Manager
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the next chapter of Essential — the world’s leading Minecraft mod used by millions of players. This is your chance to shape how Minecraft is played, making Essential even more indispensable to the global Java community.
In this role, you’ll grow and empower a talented production team while guiding ambitious projects that directly impact how players connect, create, and play together. From big-picture strategy to day-to-day execution, your leadership will help deliver new features and improvements that enhance the game for millions worldwide.

What you will do
- Team Management: Hire, develop, and manage developers' careers, performance, and growth.
- Project Execution: Break down work, balance workloads, track progress, and ensure timely, unblocked delivery.
- Collaboration: Partner with product, design, QA, and tech leadership to ensure alignment and shared success.
- Strategy and Planning: Align team goals with business objectives, roadmap, budget, and key performance metrics.
- Cross- Functional Coordination: Drive consistency and collaboration across departments and organizational processes.
- Process Facilitation: Lead Scrum ceremonies and foster continuous improvement.
- Ownership: Ensure feature quality and delivery performance.
Requirements
- Minecraft: Deep technical knowledge of the Minecraft Java ecosystem through working in the industry.
- Proven leadership in team management: experience hiring, mentoring, and developing developers, while managing career growth, performance, and feedback.
- Strong track record in project execution: ability to break down complex goals into clear tasks, balance team workloads, track progress, and deliver on time while unblocking challenges.
- Collaborative mindset: skilled at working closely with product managers, designers, QA, and technical leadership to ensure aligned goals and smooth execution.
- Strategic and analytical thinking: capable of aligning team objectives with business priorities, managing roadmaps and budgets, and tracking KPIs for productivity, quality, and delivery.
- Cross- functional leadership: experience driving collaboration and consistency across multiple teams and departments.
- Agile expertise: adept at leading Scrum ceremonies and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement.

What we offer

- As a contractor: 30€ to 35€ per hour
- As an Employee in Germany: 24.50€ to 28.50€ per hour
- Employment is also available in the UK, Austria, Slovenia. Rate will differ based on local circumstances.
