Environment Artist
We’re looking for an Environment Artist to create Minecraft environments that support and visually enhance gameplay, story, and the overall player experience.
You will be responsible for creating complete Minecraft environments and ensuring the visual execution aligns with gameplay requirements. You will work on each environment through every stage of development, from initial blockouts to a polished final product.
What You Will Do
- Create the visual design of environments based on level designs
- Transform blockouts into polished environments that support gameplay goals
- Ensure environment art and level design function together without compromising gameplay
- Participate in reviews and cross-discipline discussions to stay aligned with the project vision
- Collaborate with other departments such as art and development to seamlessly integrate assets into the product
Within 1 Month, You Will…
- Complete onboarding and gain a clear understanding of our mission, values, and production processes
- Become familiar with company policies and best practices
- Build relationships across departments to understand how we collaborate
- Learn our internal workflow and pipeline
- Begin gaining an understanding of our Minecraft Marketplace production
- Get comfortable with our core tools (GitLab, Linear, Notion, etc.)
- Begin creating environments that match the established style of our products with close supervision from your lead and the creative director
Within 3 Months, You Will…
- Consistently deliver polished environments with guidance from your lead and the creative director
- Confidently use all production tools to work efficiently and independently
- Work closely with concept artists and level designers to ensure correct execution of environments
- Test your environments in context and discuss potential changes
- Participate in weekly meetings as an active contributor, sharing updates and insights
Within 6 Months, You Will…
- Create any type of environment with minimal supervision, from scratch or based on concept art
- Proactively adjust and enhance designs when translating them from concept art into fully realized environments
- Maintain a steady output of high-quality environmental assets at a rapid and reliable pace
- Anticipate environment needs and propose improvements to concepts, levels, and implementation requirements
Requirements
- Professional experience as an Environment Artist, preferably within Minecraft or voxel-based environments
- Strong understanding of visual composition, architecture, shaping, proportions, and color theory
- Proven ability to execute environments based on gameplay and design requirements
- Extensive experience with building tools such as FAWE, VoxelSniper, or similar
- Comfortable working with project management and collaboration tools such as Notion, Linear, Git, and Discord
- Experience working in collaborative workflows and iterating based on feedback

Bonus
- Familiarity with tools such as Amulet, Chunker, or WorldMachine
- Experience building in Minecraft using custom resource packs
- Familiarity with level design principles
- Skill in environmental concept art
- Experience with modeling and texturing
- Basic programming knowledge, preferably within Minecraft Bedrock
